FAQs

Simply put, Functional Fitness is a training programme built around strength and conditioning protocols that will improve the 10 recognised physical skills:
1. Endurance
2. Stamina
3. Strength
4. Speed
5. Power
6. Balance
7. Agility
8. Flexibility
9. Accuracy
10. Coordination
Simply put, this means that before your body gets used to the same movements (stimulus) we make your training broadly varied to keep it constantly challenging and effective. This forces your body to adapt to the tasks at hand meaning changes in fitness can be observed more quickly. Functional movements are those which your body is designed to do and our goal is to get you results,in the gym that improve your life outside of the gym. Weightlifting, rowing, running, kettle-bells and gymnastics are just a few of the things you can expect to find in our classes. Intensity comes in a variety of forms including load (weight used) and the speed at which workouts are completed, but it is always relative to the individual and the beauty of Functional Fitness is that it enables all levels of athlete (yes, you are an athlete as soon as you join us) to take part in the same workouts.
2) Consistency - We ensure that once the correct movement patterns have been learned they are then maintained over time and under fatigue.
3) Intensity - When athletes are competent at moving well with consistency whilst under fatigue they can then increase the intensity. Intensity comes in all forms including speed, weight, and volume.
No! We hear this a lot and contrary to common belief, you do not need to have a certain level of fitness before you start training in this way. Functional Fitness is universally scalable which means all movements and any of our workouts can be changed and adapted to suit ANY individual - from kids to grandparents and everyone in between, life long athletes to first-time gym-goers, sports professionals, individuals recovering from injury, adaptive athletes and those exercising on medical advice - this style of training is for ANYONE! If you have the want and the will power, you can leave the rest up to us!
Firstly, if you haven't done a taster session with us we recommend you do so get in touch. Following the taster session, or if you are keen to jump straight in, we will give you a call to give you information about our facility, membership options and to get you booked on to the next Introduction to Functional Fitness course. The Introduction to Functional Fitness course runs over 1 week and is comprised of four sessions, each lasting an hour with no more than six people per course. Each session will take you through the basic movements, teach you the principles of what we do and why we do it, and with no more than six per group there is plenty of 1-2-1 time with the coach. Once the course is complete you are ready to get started in classes and start chasing those fitness goals!
As well as the main class area, we have further training areas, which include open-gym for your own training and the mezzanine which hosts classes, open-gym training and yoga. Both areas are equipped with plenty of gymnastic, weightlifting and CV equipment. We also have changing rooms, showering facilities and a treatment room (with 2 Sport massage therapists available that can be booked). There is plenty of parking space available and for the warmer months, we have an outside training area too!
