June at Valesco Fitness Collective

July 2026

VFC

Hey and welcome...

June has been another brilliant month across the Collective, packed with events, challenges and plenty of reasons to celebrate our incredible community.

We kicked off the secondValesco Big Weekender in style with Friday Night Lights at Valesco St Philips, bringing the energy, atmosphere and community spirit that makes these evenings so special. Over the weekend we also saw an awesome Backyard Ultra at Bakehouse, brilliantly organised by the inspiring Christa, alongside the Iron Action dog walk, led by the wonderful Di, Rob and Martha. A huge thank you to everyone who came along, took part and helped make the weekend such a success.

We know the temperatures have been climbing recently, and we'd like to say a big thank you to everyone for training sensibly, staying hydrated and taking the right precautions to keep yourselves safe while exercising in the heat. Looking after yourself is just as important as pushing yourself.

June also saw the launch of our BINGO Challenge, and it's been fantastic to see so many of you fully embracing it. Whether you've been ticking off Gold Stars through consistent training, visiting new Valesco sites and classes, celebrating your birthday month with friends, or simply committing to showing up week after week, it's been amazing to watch everyone getting involved and supporting each other along the way.

Valesco Brislington also played host to another fantastic HYROX SIM, with athletes putting themselves through their paces in preparation for upcoming races. The feedback was so positive that we're already planning another HYROX SIM on the 4th October, and you can get booking that on WODboard now

Looking ahead, don't forget Pride this weekend (more information included below), our Summer Social on Saturday 1st August at the Wiper and True Taproom. We'll have oversized garden games, food, drinks and, with a bit of luck, plenty of sunshine. It's the perfect chance to relax, catch up with your fellow members and enjoy some time together outside the gym.

As we head further into summer, keep looking after yourselves, stay cool, stay consistent, and we'll see you in the gym soon!

Big Valesco love from all the Team.

Coaches Corner

Remember why you started - it wasn't just for one great month.

As we move from June into July, we're officially in the season of BBQs, holidays, festivals, garden parties, and weekends that seem to fill up faster than ever. Summer is a time to enjoy yourself, make memories, and spend time with family and friends and that's exactly what you should do.

The key is remembering that fitness doesn't have to be all or nothing.

One missed session doesn't undo months of hard work, just as one great workout doesn't create long-term results. Progress comes from consistency over time, not perfection.

Keep Your Standards High, Even If Your Routine Changes

Life naturally becomes a little less structured over summer, so rather than aiming for a "perfect" week, focus on maintaining your healthy habits.

A few simple ways to stay consistent include:

  • Prioritise 2-4 quality training sessions each week, even if they're shorter than usual.

  • Keep your daily step count high by making the most of the longer evenings and lighter mornings.

  • Aim to include protein with every meal, especially when eating out or at social events.

  • Stay hydrated throughout the day - don't wait until you're thirsty.

  • Remember that one meal or one weekend never defines your progress. Get back into your normal routine at the very next opportunity.

Fitness should fit around your life, not stop you from enjoying it.

Summer Training: Stay Safe in the Heat

Training during warmer weather brings its own challenges, so it's important to look after yourself.

A few things to keep in mind:

  • Drink water consistently throughout the day rather than trying to catch up after training.

  • If you're exercising outdoors, try to train earlier in the morning or later in the evening when temperatures are lower.

  • Wear light, breathable clothing and don't forget sunscreen if you're outside.

  • Expect your heart rate to be slightly higher than normal during hot weather and don't be afraid to reduce intensity if needed.

  • If you start feeling dizzy, nauseous, unusually fatigued, or stop sweating despite the heat, stop your session, move somewhere cool, and rehydrate.

Listening to your body isn't taking it easy, it's training smart.

The Bigger Picture

Remember why you started.

The goal isn't to have a "perfect" July or August. The goal is to arrive at the end of summer feeling healthy, strong, and proud that you kept showing up, even when life got busy.

Small actions repeated consistently will always beat short bursts of motivation.

Enjoy the holidays. Enjoy the BBQs. Enjoy the ice creams. Then come back, train well, and keep moving forward.

Have a fantastic July, and as always, the coaching team is here to support you every step of the way.

Stay consistent. Stay active. Stay hydrated.

Big Love,

Coach Amy.

Rehab & Performance, Lucie at Flex

Off the back of my previous posts about mobility and creating robustness to train, a few things to consider if you are carrying an injury.

Firstly, if you are carrying an injury, there are a few ways you can manage it.

  1. Ignore it and crack on.....this is the least desirable and the issue will become chronic and take a significant amount of time to rehab, training will be come a chore and you will become miserable!

  2. Rest it- now this is sometimes what you need, especially if you are suffering with burnout or exhaustion, however then coming straight back into training/ activity at the same level will not resolve the problem.....enter your friendly healthcare professionals.

  3. Find someone suitably qualified to diagnose (unfortunately, coaches, massage therapists and non-graduate sports therapists are unable to diagnose within their scope of practice) have a proper assessment, treatment and rehabilitation programme set for you. Sometimes there is no specific diagnosis, and you may be given rehab to globally rehabilitate the area, this is ok too. be consistent with your rehab, your therapist should progress your rehab inline with your recovery. (Rehab may not always work straight away,  treatment may not always work straight away, however your therapist should adapt your rehab and treatment to accommodate this, continuing to keep the same with no improvement is not in your best interest)

  4. Continue to train after diagnosis, attend classes or open gym and strengthen around your injury if appropriate. sometimes it is not appropriate to continue training and a period of rest may be prescribed, however your training can be adapted to match your ability. The coaches should all be able to offer adaptations of movements that offer similar stimulus to the original movement or offer alternatives

  5. Talk through injury with your classmates and coaches, long term injury is tough, the majority of you train for your mental as well as your physical health and this can be massively affected by having to take time off with injury, do not distance yourself. I am always available to talk through the impact of injury. with over 10 years of working with elite athletes, I understand the impact and I can assure you that what you are feeling is normal.

  6. Remember the key points, don't ignore injury, get it properly assessed, keep training and use the coaches knowledge to adapt training and BE CONSISTANT WITH YOUR REHAB!!!
